Bioneers is a 'Revolution from the heart of Nature". Founded in 1990 by Kenny Ausubel and Nina Simons, Bioneers promotes practical environmental solutions and innovative social strategies for restoring Earth's imperiled ecosystems and healing our human communities.
Since 2005 Great Lakes Bioneers Detroit (GLBD) has participated in the national Bioneers conference, featuring the national plenary speakers as well as local workshop presenters, exhibitors and vendors.
GLBD promotes collaboration and networking among SE Michigan individuals and organizations working on sustainability and eco-justice issues.
Beside the annual October conference GLBD offers additional programs and/or collaborates with others in their programming efforts.

GLBD MISSION
Our mission is to promote sustainable community that fosters life-giving relationships, nurtures connections, and celebrates solutions for restoring and healing Earth’s communities.
We do this through a variety of strategies including:
- Educating the community on innovative solutions.
- Offering a systemic framework, i.e. a way of “connecting the dots” that is holistic, systemic, and multi-disciplinary.
- Linking individuals and networks in order to foster connection, cross-pollination, and collaboration of people and ideas, all focused on positive change.
- Advocating for opportunities to restore our damaged and depleted community.
- Being an oasis of hope that sparks mass creativity and engagement.

GLBD VISION
Our vision is expressed in the preamble of the Earth Charter:” … in the midst of a magnificent diversity of cultures and life forms, we are one human family and one Earth community with a common destiny. We must join together to bring forth a sustainable global society founded on respect for nature, universal human rights, economic justice, and a culture of peace.”
